The deadline to submit next year's course requests has been extended until Tuesday, 2/3. Students in grades 9-11 must turn in a copy of their course requests, signed by a parent/guardian to your Advisory teacher on Tuesday morning. We encourage you to refer to the Program of Studies booklet, with information about all the courses offered here at SHS. See your counselor if you have questions or need assistance.

The Messenger, Suffield High School's school newspaper, is nearing its submission deadline for its next edition. We are looking for articles from the student body with regards to, but not limited to:
  • Midterm Horror Stories!
  • Your favorite club or organization at SHS
  • Sports

These can be worked on individually or with a group! Pieces will be displayed in the school newspaper, so you could see your name under a published work! Email submissions to Ms. Majewski or Joseph Barnes.

Due to an overwhelming demand for Music Technology, Suffield High School's administration has opened another section of the course. It is being offered first period. See your guidance counselor if you are interested ASAP. The class is expected to fill quickly.

Reminder to all seniors: the Connecticut Governor's Scholarship application is due back to Guidance no later than MONDAY, FEBRUARY 2nd, before 2:30pm. No exceptions.

Attention SHS: come one, come all, students and faulty are welcome! Student Senate is holding the 2nd annual badminton tournament on Friday, February 20th directly after school from 2:15-5:30. Please see Ms. Whiteley or Mrs. Kruk for an entry slip, hurry we are only allowing 30-34 teams in the tournament. $10 per student team, $12 per teacher team. 1st and 2nd place teams will be award a prize!!

Attention students and staff!

The Messenger, our school's newspaper, is currently accepting new articles for its second edition of the school year. Please email your submissions to Ms. Majewski or Ms. Petrone. All submissions are due before Monday, February 9th, 2015. Some suggestions for possible contributions have been sent to your school email account.
Those suggestions are:

  • What are your New Year's resolutions? (And – how are you doing with those???)
  • Write a New Year's resolution for your favorite celebrity!
  • The Messenger is continuing its Logo Contest! Can you create a logo for our school newspaper?
  • Articles on Suffield Sports!
    • Schedule of games
    • Any stats to mention
  • Articles on new and noteworthy things in the news?
  • Civil Rights: What happens when people feel their rights are being violated?
  • Pop culture news
  • What's new in the sciences?
  • What is your favorite class, and why?

This is a reminder that Orpheus has posted new writing prompts for its winter edition. All submissions are due to Ms. Majewski or Ms. Petrone by February 6th, 2014. You do not need to write on a prompt to have your work be published in Orpheus--please email any creative writing work that you would like to be considered for publication to Ms. Majewski or Ms. Petrone.
As a reminder, some prompts for the Winter Edition are:
  • Write about a winter anecdote (sledding, building snowmen, skiing, etc.)
  • SHS has been snowed in. What happens?
  • If you were haunted by the ghost of holidays past, what would happen?
  • Winter is Coming → Game of Thrones! You are on the Night's Watch. What is going on?
  • Winter is Coming → If you could be anyone from Game of Thrones who would you be and why?
  • Frosty the Snowman comes back to life. What happens?
  • The Grinch is back. What happens?
  • If you were haunted by the ghost of holidays past, what would happen?
  • Horror winter stories (snowed in, extreme blizzards, no power, etc.)
  • Walking Dead → If you were stuck alone all winter in The Walking Dead, how would you survive?
  • Doctor Who → If you were a Time Lord, would you go back in time or not?
  • While you're going skiing, you make a jump that lands you in the woods all alone. What happens?
  • Military Fiction - You're in the Army, Marines, etc. Describe a military winter combat scene
  • Fantasy/Sci Fi short story

The New Britain Rock Cats Baseball Team will host a Sports Career Seminar Day for high school students on Wednesday, April 22nd. The cost is $6.00 and includes admission to the Rock Cats game that day. The program will feature a panel of speakers who have played and worked in professional sports. Registration forms are available in Guidance.
