SPED PAC will be meeting on Wednesday, February 10th from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. in the Library Media Center in Suffield High School.

Agenda will include:

  • the introduction of the new SPED PAC Co-Chairs
  • a review of the mission, vision and strategic plan for special education
  • plan future meeting topics

The Suffield Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SPED PAC) was started as a way for parents and Suffield Special Services to exchange information and ideas, ask questions, and solicit input. We encourage ALL members of the Suffield school community and parents including those whose children receive services from Suffield Special Services to attend the meetings.

Student Senate will be hosting a badminton tournament after school on February 11th from 2:15 to 5:30. Please see Ms. Whiteley or Madam Kruk for a badminton registration form. It is first come first serve. We are only letting in 32 teams. The cost per team is $10. Only 2 people per team. Students and staff are welcome to participate. 1st and 2nd prizes will be given!!

The Hugh O'Brien Youth Leadership Program is offering an Advanced Leadership Academy for current Juniors and Seniors who are passionate about social causes; willing to take on new challenges and learn about themselves and their skills; ready to develop an action plan for change; and ready to take on college level courses and earn college credit. This is a tuition based program that will be held on July 7-12 at Loyola University in Chicago and it's open to high school students. Check out the Summer Opportunities file in the Counseling Office for more information about this and other exciting summer programs.

The Capitol Region Interdistrict Leadership Academy (CRILA) is now accepting applications from current 10th & 11th graders for their 2016-17 Academy Program. This is a highly regarded and selective program which includes a 7 day all expenses paid Outward Bound experience in Colorado in June as well as the chance to develop community service projects with other high school students from the greater Hartford area. Interested students should pick up an application in the Counseling Office. Deadline is March 15th!

SHS and Catalyst Test Prep have partnered to offer a two-day SAT Bootcamp that will provide students with key strategies for the newly redesigned SAT. The course will run here at SHS on Saturday, February 27th and Sunday, February 28th from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and costs $150. The timing is especially good for Juniors who will be taking the new SAT here at SHS on Wednesday, March 2nd during the school day. This is a two-day seminar designed for students who wish to unlock the key to the brand new SAT and build confidence and momentum prior to taking it. Participants will also receive Catalyst's New SAT prep book, self-study materials, and diagnostic tests.
