Sophomores are again reminded that a limited number of spaces are still available for the PSAT to be given here at SHS on Wednesday, October 14th. This is an excellent opportunity for 10th graders to gain valuable experience taking a practice SAT test. Cost is $14 and sophomores can register by bringing a check (payable to SHS) to the Counseling Office. Space is limited, so register by Friday, October 2nd. See your counselor with questions.
Attention SHS: This week is Ally Week, sponsored by the Gay-Straight Alliance. Come by during lunch this Wednesday through Friday to sign the ally pledge, take a ribbon, get information on what being an ally means, and take your picture in our Instagram frame to show your support. Any questions? Ask Ms. DeAngelis or any member of the GSA for more details.
Register for Suffield High School's first ever color run taking place on Saturday October 17th. Registration packets will be available during all 3 lunch waves until October 9th. Sign up at lunch or contact Amelia Picard or Madison D'Ostuni if you have any questions.
Attention all students, faculty, staff, and administration: Monday, October 5 is Picture Day. If you need another order form, there are some in the Main Office and in Room 618 (Ms. Deedy's room). Students will have their photos taken during their English classes, seniors too for your student ID. These pictures will be included in the 2016 yearbook and used for your school ID, so everyone in the building will need to be photographed.
The staff of the Messenger is looking for newspaper submissions. You do not have to come to meetings to submit! We are looking for topics relating to: Suffield on the Green, the Writing Center, book suggestions, adjustments to life as a highschooler, and more! Please send submissions to Ashley Cheng.
The staff of Orpheus is looking for submissions for the literary magazine. Our edition is going to be horror and autumn related themes. Any stories, poems, drama, illustrations, and comics are welcome. Please send submissions to Ms. Petrone or Mrs. Kaplita.
A reminder to senior guys that you are required by law to register with the Selective Service System within 30 days of your 18th birthday. Failure to register can make you ineligible for federal financial aid. Students can register online at www.sss.gov or at their local post office.
Sophomores: Applications are now available for the 2016 Hugh O'Brien Youth Leadership Seminar (HOBY Program) to be held this spring. Each year, SHS gets to select one sophomore to attend this prestigious leadership seminar, where students from high schools across CT participate in leadership activities, meet leaders in their state, and explore their own personal leadership skills while learning how to lead others and make a positive impact in their community.
All sophomores are eligible to apply and selection will be based on demonstrated leadership and leadership potential. Pick up an application in the Counseling Office today. Deadline is 10/16! See your counselor with questions.
